Weight loss entails a lifestyle change and right diet and regular exercise are only a part of it. To achieve your weight loss goals you have to adapt a completely different way of thinking. You can't lose weight with the habits that created the weight gain in the first place. This being said I have to admit that it is not easy to change habits; there is usually a lot of resistance. To overcome the resistance and move forward you need to avoid negative thinking and learn how to motivate yourself.
Here are 4 steps to help you get started:
- Do not spend too much time thinking that you cannot follow the weight loss program for whatever reason, be it lack of time, complexity of the program or anything else. The best approach is just to proceed without thinking. If you think too much you will never start. Thinking too much will create analysis paralysis and is a direct way to failure. It is better to start slowly than to think too much.
- Do not get overwhelmed by tasks that need to be done. Prepare a daily list and stick to it. You'll be surprised how much will be done by the end of the week.
- Read motivational books and listen to motivational audios daily. They will keep your spirit up and help you to continue with the program.
- Visualize your desired outcome. In your mind wear the nice clothes you always wanted, catch the sight of interested people on the streets. Also physically feel the lightness in the body, less pressure on your joints, lower back and knees. See yourself free of all weight-loss related health problems.
- Avoid negative people if possible and surround yourself with supportive people. Join weight loss circles, groups or online forums where you can find people in the same position you are today as well as people who already succeeded in what you are trying to accomplish. This can be a powerful motivator for you to succeed.
Follow these steps and you will be successful in your weight loss goal.
